I just love the song of the Whip-poor-will. It really takes me back to my childhood. I heard a Barred Owl hooting around the house for two consecutive nights. David, I know a man who lives on main Knox in Hurley who raises Ringed-neck Pheasants and, if I am not mistaken, Bobwhites. I will get his name and phone number for you. Not much new to report from Caney Island Branch. Just the usual Scarlet Tanagers, Wood Thrushes, Redstarts, Hoodeds, Blue-wingeds, Ovenbirds, Black-throated Greens, Yellow-throateds, Black-and-Whites, and Ceruleans -- you know, just the same old bunch. Yesterday, the 1st, while checking the Bluebird trail here in Breaks, I saw a Bobwhite Quail at Ed Bailey's farm. Ed told me the little guy showed up on Saturday and has been eating with his chickens & roosting in a tree by his barn. He thinks the Quail was probably raised locally & released into the wild. Ed would like to get a female and attempt to raise some young. If anyone knows of an available female Quail, let me know. It would be great to once again hear the call of the Bobwhite Quail here in our hollow! The Grosbeaks are still showing up at our feeders and on Saturday we had a Swamp Sparrow & 2 Wh. Cr. Sparrows as well. Dave R --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check outnew cars at Yahoo! Autos.
