Tom and Laverne, it sounds like the word has gotten out that your house is the place to go to get fed in Russell County. That's a good group of Rusties. They seem to have increased in the area this fall. Just keep the starlings in Russell County:) We have 4 Rusties this morning along with some Grackles and Red-wings, one Fox Sparrow. I think this is the first time I have seen the Grackles eating the suet.
We have 9 inches of snow over here, but it is still falling. Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt----- Original Message ----- From: "Thomas Hunter" <opiehunter@xxxxxxxxx> To: "Bristol Birds" <bristol-birds@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; "buchanan co bc" <bcbirdclub@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; "virginia birds" <va-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
Sent: Monday, December 06, 2010 11:16 AM Subject: [Va-bird] Rusty Blackbirds - Russell CountyWe have at least 10 inches of snow on the ground and the birds have invaded our feeders. We are not used to having starlings at the feeders but yesterday and today we have had 500 plus at the feeders, on the ground, in the driveway and on the road leading to our house. Along with the Starlings there were blackbirds, 15+ Red-winged Blackbirds, 25 Common Grackles, 2 Brown-headed Cowbirds and at least 12 Rusty Blackbirds.
