This afternoon a small, male Sharp-shinned Hawk came zooming into the yard
chasing the birds from the feeders. It chased a small bird around the Azalea
bush, but suddenly changed targets when it found a Mourning Dove squatting
on the ground trying to escape notice. The hawk pounced on the dove and held
it down until it died. The dove was nearly as large as the hawk so it had a
struggle keeping the dove from getting away. After the dove expired the
Sharpie couldn't pick it up and fly away with it, so it dragged it into the
shadow of a bush and there it picked the dove and ate it.
