After a discussion during the BCBC meeting on Monday evening it was decided
to change the club picnic scheduled for Monday, June 11 at Keen Mountain
Park. Instead we will bird Horn Mountain on Saturday, June 2. We will meet
at Sonny's place just off Route 460 at 8:00 a.m. then bird across Horn
Mountain. After crossing Horn Mountain we will bird up the back side (east
side) of Compton Mountain and down the other side to our place where we will
have lunch. Anyone who is not up for the birding that morning, but would
like to eat with us can meet us at our place around noon.
Horn mountain birding is always a great place to find lots of birds,
especially during the spring. Scarlet Tanagers, Indigo Buntings, Kentucky
Warblers, American Redstarts, Black-throated Green Warblers, Hooded
Warblers, Yellow Warblers and Black-and-white Warblers are just some of the
species we can expect to find.
I hope you will make plans to be a part of this great birding day. You will
not be disappointed.
