Dave, The Red-wing numbers were back up to 12 yesterday along with two Common Grackles, and early this morning before daybreak I heard a Barred Owl call near the house - probably the same one I heard before. The goldfinch numbers are up to around 50. I haven't seen more than 10 or so at our feeders. I have heard a Barred Owl calling recently from the woods above the barn. They were eating everything in sight until a Cooper's Hawk chose a perch at the edge of the woods. The Red-wings left and this morning only one was hanging around. On Monday night as Lynda and I were traveling home on Slate Creek Lynda spotted a Barred Owl perched beside the road almost at eye level. I didn't see it very well, so we turned around and came by it again. I slowed as we got to it, and the owl was facing away from us, but turned to peer at us as we went by. Last night near midnight I heard the call of a Barred Owl here on the mountain. It called only a few times then fell silent. I was hoping it would continue calling so I could fall asleep to the sound, but it wasn't to be. It was still nice to hear it, even briefly. Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt No virus found in this message.
