I looked out at the feeders on this very cold( +6) morning & there in the snow was a very large sparrow. This bird dwarfed the Song Sparrows & Juncos nearby so I thought probably a Fox Sparrow, but no, after viewing through binoculars & checking w/Peterson & Sibley there was no doubt we have a 1st winter Harris's Sparrow feeding in our yard. This is a Lifer for me and a very unusual species to locate east of the Mississippi! Cool! I would also like to share a report from my neighbor Ed Bailey who saw a low flying Snow Goose fly-by on the 26th, also a rare sighting for us here in Breaks. Dave R/Breaks,VA
