Don Carrier came up to our place today on the mountain. We spent part of the
day birding. We managed to get 40 species plus an Empidonax species.
We got 8 warbler species: 1 Ovenbird, 5 Tennessees, 1 especially striking
Hooded, 2 Magnolias, 1 Bay-breasted, 1 Palm, 2 Yellow-throateds and 4
Black-throated Greens. We also got 3 White-eyed Vireos, 1 Blue-headed Vireo
and 2 Red-eyed Vireos. Also added to the list were Swainson's Thrush, Wood
Thrushes, Catbirds and Thrashers. After Don left in the afternoon he called
back to say that he had seen a shorebird as he passed a neighbor's farm
pond. I drove out there, but had no luck finding the shorebird, and I saw
the reason. There perched in a tree near the pond was this immature female
Peregrine Falcon, which was quite a surprise.
