Here's a photo of the rookery on Dismal River. Roger and Lynda Mayhorn, Mary
Talbott, Dave Raines and myself met there yesterday and watched the activity
around it for an hour or so. At one point we counted fifteen Great Blues. At
one point, something spooked the birds off their nests and eleven birds took to
air at once! It was quite a spectacle. Later, we went to Poplar/Southern Gap
to look for displaying Woodcocks. We were very successful as we found six or
seven displaying and with the aid of a flashlight found two more on the ground.
Also, as we were leaving we had good views of two more that were drinking from
a puddle. As a bonus, we also got a look at a Northern Harrier as it hunted
the fields just before dusk.
