Hopefully this will give West Virginia hemlocks a reprieve and help the birds that nest in them: Subject: Woolly Adelgid and the 2013-2014 Winter Date: Wed Apr 2 2014 9:11 am From: dsg4 AT psu.edu Those in the State College Bird Club may have attended the talk given by Kelli Hoover, Professor of Entomology at Penn State. When she came to my office this morning to talk about another project, she said "Good News! This winter has decimated the Woolly Adelgid in PA!" In fact for her project that requires growing beetles that are predators for the adelgid, they have had to ship woollys from the south. She said it will take several years for them to re-establish themselves here. So maybe our hemlocks have earned a respite and this will give researchers a chance to annihilate them.
