Thanks Bob, Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt ----- Original Message ----- From: Bob Sweaney To: Roger Mayhorn Sent: Saturday, April 06, 2013 9:08 PM Subject: Sandhill Cranes--Platte River Nebraska We recently returned from a trip to the Platte River valley in south central Nebraska. The photos were taken of the Sandhill Cranes during their migration. The first is taken on the afternoon of March 17 south of the Platte River near Kearney. The next two were taken in the early morning just south of Grand Island, Nebraska. The cranes roost in 4-6 inches of water. The final photo is of Snow Geese and a few Brants at Mormon Wayside also near Grand Island. We were able to view (not well) a single Whooping Crane amid the Sandhill Cranes but there was a lot of the time when it was pretty well obscured and well across the water from our position. We also got distant views of Greater Prairie Chickens on their leks 8-10 miles northwest of Grand Island. Bob Sweaney Pike County Ky
