Subject: Breaks birds 5/9/17
I'm trying to get in as much birding as possible right now. Migration is
on-going and the anniversary date of my recording of a Kirtland's Warbler at
our place is approaching. On 5/11/15 I got an audio recording of a Kirtland's
as it sang from the tangles along the creek. Yesterday's birds were mostly
observed while window watching during the rain except for the Barred Owl and
Red-shouldered Hawk. I found them while out doing a late evening driving tour
of the Breaks Community. The Barred Owls were found over on Cowfork and the
Hawk was found at neighbor Ed Bailey's place. Three Barred Owls came sailing
out of the forest near the old two story farmhouse on Cowfork. They flew into
the trees along the fields and began calling. Then one of them flew out and lit
on the ground in the garden where it stood for a few minutes before flying to a
perch in nearby trees. I took the pics from my truck from a distance of nearly
a hundred yards. The old cashew tin located on a shelf is this year's nest site
for a Carolina Wren. They nested there a few years ago for the first time. No
Kirtland's yesterday but the search continues today. I did find a Bay-breasted
Warbler singing along the Garden Hole road on Sunday evening.

Does anyone know the name of the plant I found along Camp Branch? The bloom had
passed-Orchid family?
