Lynda looked out the kitchen window earlier today and exclaimed "warbler, warbler". I went to look and our First Of the Season Yellow-throated Warbler was at the suet feeder. It then moved to the platform feeder, looking for insects no doubt, then finally to the cherry tree where I took this photo. A Cooper's Hawk has been hanging around for the last couple of days. Yesterday Nick Wimmer and I were looking out at the feeders when a Cooper's swooped in and the feeding birds scattered. We lost sight of the hawk as it swooped toward some shrubbery near the dining room door. A second or so later we watched as the hawk flew away from the door carrying a black bird in its talons. There were both Red-wings and Cowbirds at the feeders. I couldn't tell which the hawk had nabbed. Twice today the Cooper's was back and I took this second photo as it landed on the ground and searched the shrubs for birds. This time it went away without prey. Also this morning I saw a Meadowlark out in the grass field and had Purple Finches, Chipping Sparrows and the Brown Thrasher at the feeders. Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt
