From the species present at our place today you might think it was the
middle of September. Three Tennessee Warblers, a couple of Cape Mays and a
Scarlet Tanager were all here. The tanager and the Cape Mays were feeding on
the grapes I am still putting out. I found the first White-throated Sparrow
of the season on Monday; I managed to get a photo of one today. Also, there
were at least 25 Eastern Comma Butterflies on apples in our driveway.
Eastern Commas can be identified by the single small white mark on the brown
underside of the closed wing, and when the wings are open by the three
horizontal black dots in the center of each orange colored wing. Attached
are a few photos.
