Save the date! The organizers of Buchanan County's first annual Elk Fest have
invited us to have a bird walk Saturday October 17th! We'll be given access to
the Elk restoration area so we'll no doubt be seeing Elk along with some Fall
migrants. Sparrow migration will be ramping up then and this area should be
good for Savannah, Lincoln and Vesper Sparrows. Southern Gap usually produces
flocks of Bobolinks this time of year, so we'll keep an eye out for them too.
We will meet up at the Southern Gap Visitor Center between 8:00 and 8:30 am and
then caravan for the ten-minute drive from there to the Elk restoration area.
I have attached a Google Map that will direct you to the Visitor Center if you
are not familiar with the area. So, don your masks and join us there.
