Yesterday about noon, Lynda and I took a look at the Compton pond on here on Compton Mt. We do this every time we drive by it. This time we could see something black and white on the water. We looked with binoculars and were pleasantly surpised to see this pair of Buffleheads (male on the right). This species is a very rare sighting for Buchanan County. The pond is not very large so I figure this pair was migrating northward and dropped down to feed and rest before continuing the journey. On another note, we had one gobbler and 7 hens in our yard on Saturday. The male was gobbling and displaying for the hens. Spring is definitely here. Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt
