This morning we had both male and female Rose-breasted Grosbeaks at the feeder. I was surprised to see a White-crowned Sparrow feeding under one feeder. I hadn't seen one of those since one passed through on April 29. The male Orchard Oriole is still singing around the yard. Hopefully, he is nesting here. A nest of Carolina Wrens just fledged in one of our out buildings. Two couldn't find their way out. I finally had to give them a hand, which mama wasn't too happy about. Gray Catbirds have a nest in a shrub just below our bedroom window. I checked it yesterday and found 3 very dark, bluish-green eggs. A Robin has built a nest under the edge of the roof of our shed and scolds me every time I have to go out there for the lawnmower, etc. Both Wood Thrushes and Eastern Towhees call from the woods below the yard. It is more than likely that they are nesting there. A male American Redstart keeps singing in the tall locust trees near the edge of the yard where a pair nested last year. I hear the Yellow Warblers often singing in the walnut and maple trees in the yard. They usually nest in the maples each year. Tree Swallows are nesting in one of the plastic gourds attached to our Martin house. Bluebirds are nesting in one nest box and Carolina Chickadees are nesting in another. I still hear and see the Yellow-breasted Chat in the upper field. I'm sure it is nesting there. A pair does almost every year. In the same field Northern Flickers are nesting high up in a dead locust tree. Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt
