I took an early morning trip to Burkes Garden this morning. My goal was to
locate some raptors but it fell short due to the weather. The wind was rather
brisk this morning, blowing the snow around made viewing impossible. I was able
to get a few birds, one of which was a female harrier hanging on for dear life
fighting the wind. She looked like a leaf blowing in a wind storm. I found a
flock of about 40 Horned Larks ice skating and eating, the ground they were on
was frozen, it looked funny watching them slip and slide there way through
lunch.
I then decided to bird Russell Co, I had a Loggerhead Shrike and about 300
White-crowned sparrows. While sparrow watching I ran into one of the locals, he
got out of his car waiving his hands madly in the air, yelling we don't take
kindly to strangers in these parts. It took some doing but I finally calmed him
down. He seemed like a nice enough fellow. LOL Good to see you Jerry. The
