  Mindy,
I also received an e-mail from Ron Canterbury. He said that the banded House
Finch could be one of the 15,000 he has banded since 1998. I haven't seen the
bird since the day I took the photo.
  Thanks for the input.

    Roger and BCBC listserv,
We couldn't tell anything from the band either. Though your photos were
quite good. It is hard to tell who might have banded it. If it stays around
Allen says he could come over and try to net it, then look at the band. The
bander doesn't necessarily have to be local. It is hard to tell where the
little guy could have come from.
You might check with Bill Hilton in S.C. as I know he bands house finches.

      Hi All,
On March 9th I photographed some birds on and around one of our feeders.
It wasn't until later, looking at the photos that I saw a House Finch wearing a
metal leg band.
I could see some markings on the band, but no numbers. I called the
Patuxent Bird Banding Laboratory in Laurel Maryland to see if they wanted the
photos, and to see if they might get enough info from it to at least find out
who the bander was.
Upon their request I sent them the photos, but unfortunately they
couldn't get enough info from them.

Maybe club members, Allen and Mindy Waldron, in WV could tell us if they
know of any local banding projects that may have banded this bird.

Here are the two photos. The second one is just a blow-up of a part of
the first.
