Subject: Update Regarding High Winds Friday and Friday Night
Good afternoon,
We continue to expect strong winds to occur Friday afternoon through
Friday night across the region, especially from the last afternoon through
early overnight. Very little has changed with the forecast today. Here are
the key messages for this event, which we expect to be fairly impactful due
to several hours of wind gusts near to above 50mph:
1. A cold front will cross the region by daybreak Friday. Winds
will gradually increase throughout the day behind the front to around 20 to
30 mph with gusts exceeding 45 mph into the afternoon hours. Wind gusts of
50-60 mph will be possible area wide into the evening and early overnight
hours. A High Wind Watch remains in effect for the entire area from noon
Friday through 4 AM Saturday (see attached graphics).
2. Scattered tree damage and power outages are likely with
these strong winds.
3. Gale-force winds are expected to develop across Delaware Bay
and the Atlantic waters, with the potential for a few hours of gusts near 50
kts into the evening and early overnight hours on Friday. A Gale Warning is
in effect for the day on Friday, and a Storm Watch remains in effect for
Friday evening and Friday night.
