Subject: Key Messages Regarding Active Weather Sunday and Monday
An active period of weather is expected across the region Sunday and
Monday. Here are some key messages regarding the event:
1. Rainfall Sunday: A period of moderate to locally heavy
rainfall is anticipated from late Sunday morning into the afternoon. The
best chances for the highest rainfall totals are southeast of the I-95
corridor. Though storm total rainfall is not expected to be exceptionally
high (generally up to an inch), high rainfall rates may cause some nuisance
urban, poor-drainage, and small stream flooding.
2. Localized strong to potentially damaging wind gusts possible
Sunday evening: A line of showers is forecast to develop along a surging cold
front moving through the region Sunday evening. Little or no lightning is
expected, but showers will have the capability of producing strong to locally
(isolated) damaging wind gusts.
3. Widespread strong winds on Monday: Northwest winds 20 to 30
mph with gusts of at least 40 mph are expected on Monday. Scattered power
outages and tree damage may occur across the area.
4. Gales on the nearshore waters Sunday evening through Monday
night: Gale-force winds are expected from Sunday evening through Monday
night on Delaware Bay and the coastal Atlantic waters. A Gale Warning is in
effect for this time period.
