Spending measure proposed by Norm Spector. Will simplify maintenance of roads
and ranges. Note from Norm follows:
While speaking to Dan James, owner of RI Harvesting about the Kubota, I asked
him to get me a price on the land plane used for road maintenance which I had
mentioned to you a while ago. The price new is $2250, which includes freight.
If we decided we'd like one, since I told him we don't need it right away, he
said he could wait until he has an entire order together later in the year
and he could save us the freight bill. The total without the freight would be
around $1925.
I shopped it around a little bit and found a 'used' one at a large dealer in
Franklin, CT for $1600. It looks to me to be brand new - the paint isn't even
scratched on the wear parts. I'm guessing it could be had for $1500. Do you
think this is something the club would go for? It's a top of the line
implement with replaceable wear parts that will last a lifetime. I've used
one and they work terrifically. I personally think it is perfect for
maintaining the club's roads and parking areas.
I don't think the used one will sell right away as it's kind of a specialty
item. I was actually surprised to find it. Perhaps you could discuss this
with the others and if they think it is a good idea, possibly put this up for
a vote either this month or next so that we can have one for fall road
maintenance.

Open Skeet: Open Skeet sessions occur Saturdays. Established shooters are

HANDGUN NEWS:
Bradford Sportsmen's Club will begin hosting monthly IDPA matches on the
first Sunday of each month beginning July 3rd, 2016.
IMPORTANT: When you show up for a match, please do not handle your gun until
you understand when and where it is appropriate to do so. Until then, keep it
in an enclosed compartment, e.g. a range bag or a gun rug. Failure to comply
with IDPA safe gun handling rules WILL result in match disqualification.
IDPA is a practical shooting sport similar to USPSA. However, the focus of
IDPA is self-defense for the law-abiding armed citizen. Therefore, the
equipment you use must be suitable for everyday use in real life.
In IDPA matches you will:
- Draw from concealment.
- Engage (shoot at) threats (bad guys) from behind cover, or while moving--if
cover is not available.
- Avoid shooting non-threats (good guys).
These are things you would do in a real life self-defense situation. However,
most people don't have an opportunity to practice them, which makes IDPA a
great sport for legally armed citizens.
To compete in IDPA, you don't need a lot of fancy equipment. All you need is:
- A sturdy gun belt that must go through the belt loops on your pants (up to
two loops may be skipped).
- An inside or outside the waist band holster suitable for concealed carry
(Appendix carry is NOT allowed).
- Up to three belt-mounted ammo carriers (4 for REV and BUG)
- A concealment garment that will conceal your gun and mags with your arms
extended horizontally away from your body. Typically, this is a vest, but it
can be anything that conceals, e.g. an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt, or a
pullover shirt that hangs over the equipment.
The guns used must also be suitable for daily carry. Some gun modifications
are allowed, depending on division.
So that you can measure your performance against others using guns similar to
yours, IDPA has divisions:
Stock Service Pistol (SSP) - An off the shelf semi-auto pistol. Division
capacity is 10+1 rounds (10 rounds in each mag plus one in the chamber)
Enhanced Service Pistol (ESP) - An off the shelf semi-auto pistol with some
modifications, e.g. a mag well. Division capacity is 10+1.
Custom Defensive Pistol (CDP - An ESP gun in 45 ACP caliber. Division
capacity is 8+1
Compact Carry Pistol (CCP) - A ESP gun with a 4.1 inch or shorter barrel.
Division capacity is 8+1.
Revolver (REV) - A gun that stores ammo in a revolving cylinder. Division
capacity is 6.
Back Up Gun (BUG) - A very small semi-auto pistol (BUG-S) or revolver
(BUG-R). Division capacity is 6.
Not for Competition (NFC) - Guns that are not legal in any other division.
Don't worry if you are not sure if the equipment you currently have is IDPA
legal. As long as it's safe, we'll still let you shoot.
Before buying any equipment, it's a good idea to check the rule book to
insure it's legal, e.g. "Bullets out" mag carriers are not legal.

So that you can measure your performance against others with similar skills,
IDPA has classifications based on performance in the IDPA Classifier and
major IDPA matches. The classifications are: Unclassified, Novice, Marksman,
Sharpshooter, Export, Master, Distinguished Master. When you sign up for a
match, you specify your division and classification in that division.
For each string of fire in the match, you will be timed. Your score is your
raw time plus time added for inaccuracy (1/2 second per point down) and
penalties, such as hitting a non-threat (5 seconds added). Lowest time in the
Division/Classification wins that Division/Classification.
Matches are open to Bradford Sportsmen's Club members and guests. Guests will
be required to sign the Bradford Sportsmen's Club waiver.

TRAINING AND SHOOTING ACTIVITIES:
GUESTS
Guests of members are always welcome!! However, a member should bring no more
guests than they can safely manage. Members must remember that they are
responsible for their guests. Members must have eyes on their guests when the
guests are shooting, or another qualified club member must provide oversight.
The number of guests who can be managed during a visit will be activity and
member dependent. For example, a member experienced in trap/skeet/five-stand
can keep eyes on an entire squad to ensure safe range use; a relatively
inexperienced member might be unable to insure safe pistol or rifle range use
by even a single guest. If a member is new to shooting, they should be honest
with themselves when answering the following question; Am I experienced
enough as a shooter to take on the responsibility of instructing proper range
use? If one even hesitates to answer that question in the affirmative, they
should not invite guests until they as members seek out additional training
and range orientation. It is really very simple, we as members are
responsible for the safe use of our ranges.
Step 1: Member accompanies guest to one of the two waiver sign-in stations
located in the old Club House and new Field House. Member has guest read
range rules appropriate to the planned shooting, and should provide
instruction as necessary. Member and guest complete the waiver sign-in
following the posted directions. Member does not send a guest in
unaccompanied, as the member must open the safe using the combination.
Step 2: Sign the log book at the range being used that day.
Step 3: Sign out prior to leaving the range, and return guest badge to the
waiver sign-in station.
Safety Tip:
As club members and guests of club members, participation in formal and
informal shooting activities is an excellent way to learn how to safely use
firearms on the ranges. Whether it is open trap, action shooting or a range
orientation session, all will provide instruction on safety and range
etiquette. MEMBERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR GUEST, INCLUDING COMPLETION OF
THE WAIVER SIGN-IN PROCEDURE.

A SAFE Defensive Handgun Training Day at Bradford Sportsmen's Club
Date: Saturday, September 10th
Time: Classroom and Range 8:00am - 5:00 PM, followed by a Meal and Social
gathering, from 5:00pm - 7:00pm.
Instructors: Seth Wish, Greg Grutter (Cruz), Jack Folloni and Ken Wilkinson.
Fee: Donation of $175.00. This is a not for profit course. Instructors are
volunteering their time. Net proceeds will be divided equally among Bradford,
SAFE Instructor network and NRA/ILA. A recommendation will be made to donate
the Bradford third to the Rhode Island 2nd Amendment Coalition.
Enrollment: Participation in this event is currently open to members of SAFE
and Bradford. The class will be limited to the first 16-20 candidates who
send a deposit of $50.00 to Ken Wilkinson @ 8 Regatta Drive Niantic CT 06357.
If interest exceeds available spots, consideration will be given to offering
this same course on a later date.
Details: This an intermediate defensive handgun course, and will be taught by
SAFE qualified Instructors. The course curriculum is being developed.
Prerequisite: This training is for intermediate handgun shooters. Familiarity
with skills acquired in a basic or level 1 defensive handgun course is a
must. We will vet for equipment and SAFE and effective gun handling at the
start of class. A fair standard would be the same as for a typical Personal
Protection Course: 16 of 20 shots on a 9-inch target @ 21 feet with no time
limit. (Just SAFE) Course content will include the following: basics of
drawing and firing from concealment; moving to cover; multiple target
engagement; firing while retreating; turning to engage and much more. At end
of the training day we will offer the opportunity for you to shoot the timed
firing drills found in the NRA Defensive Pistol handbook.
Equipment: eye & ear protection; handgun of at least 9mm/380 or 38/357
caliber;
quality hip holster with a reasonable cant, and covers the trigger guard; at
least two mags or speed loaders.
No 1911 type semi autos unless they have a mechanical de-cocker.
Ammo: Bring a minimum of 200 rounds of quality ammo. Depending on competency
and confidence, students may elect not to conduct some drills, while other
students may participate in more complex drills. So, the ammo expended will
vary among students; thus more ammo is better. No Hand loads. Factory reloads
OK.
At the End of the day we will provide a meal to all who enroll in this
training.

If unable to attend scheduled sessions, contact a range committee chairman;
they will accommodate you. New applicants in 2016 will be required to attend
orientation sessions covering each discipline irrespective of shooting
interests. We want all members educated in the proper use of our ranges, so
that improper use of ranges will more likely be detected. So, current members
are strongly encouraged to attend orientation sessions. Members found to be
lacking in knowledge of the proper use of ranges will be directed to attend a
range orientation session.
