There is nothing wrong with customizing your gun to the way you like it. 
However, the difference for me is that the XD doesn’t need any mods to compete 
with whereas a Glock 34 needs new sights and a trigger job. So the Glock 34 
ends up costing $200 more than the XD. After which, I still think the XD is a 
better gun.

I will say the the Glock is more flexible. You have way more options. But my 
assertion was that the XD is the best gun out of the box, i.e. no modifications 
are needed.


That having been said, I'd like to shoot that Springfield you mention if you 
have one.

You let me shoot your 45 for the RI LTC qual, and other than the grip safety, 
I liked the feel and the trigger (the latter was customize by you if memory 
serves me).

Yes, that gun had a Powder River Precision trigger, which is sublime. No Glock 
trigger upgrade comes close to the improvement the PRP trigger offers. Which is 
saying something because I think the XD factory trigger is pretty damn good.

BTW, the PRP trigger is what the Springfield Custom Shop installs if you 
request a trigger upgrade.

100% reliable.
Very accurate.
Relatively inexpensive (~ $500)
Magazines are relatively inexpensive (~ $25).
Feels great in the hand.
Nice smooth trigger.
Fiber optic front sight.
Undercut trigger guard (No Glock knuckle).
Ambidextrous mag release that is easy to reach.
Unobtrusive grip safety (for safe holstering).

Other considerations:

Factory 10-round mags are available and cheap. They cannot be converted to 
greater than 10 rounds. They use the same base pads as standard capacity 
(i.e. > 10 round) mags, so they are easy to disassemble/clean and third-party 
base pads can be used (e.g. TangoDown/Vickers).

The grip is smaller than a Glock or M&P so it accommodates smaller hands 
and/or shorter fingers.
