Hello! We're well into the final stretch of the 2016/17 school year, with
summer approaching fast. If you're not dealing with exams or Pupil Equity Fund
then you may be planning the summer fair. Whatever it is, SPTC has help at
hand. Here's your news for parents and carers in May.
For daily updates on what is going on in Scottish education and the latest news
for parents and families, make sure you're connected with us on

If your parent group pays for its own membership of SPTC, you’ll be receiving
your renewal pack very soon. If you haven't done it yet, double check that you
have told us about any change in contact details for your group since August
2016, or this important information pack may not arrive to you!
This gives you lots of time before the end of the membership year (the end of
July). We know it’s a busy time of year, so be sure to start the process now,
and get the paperwork back to us as soon as you can.
If your group’s membership is paid for by your Local Authority, look out for
info after the summer holiday!

Last week, you may have seen the news that the literacy results of school
pupils have fallen over the last four years. This was the result of the
Scottish Survey of Literacy and Numeracy, an annual survey which monitors
national performance of school children at P4, P7 and S2 in literacy and
numeracy in alternate years.
On the SPTC
blog<http://sptc.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=34e707cb8b5e3805f58adb634&id=ca3d77f263&e=f01495a44c>,
we have been looking at the results and seeing what it really means for
parents.

Has your child's school benefited from Pupil Equity Fund money? As a parent,
have you been involved or invited to be involved in deciding how the money
should be spent? We want to hear how schools have been involving families in
making these important decisions.
If your school is setting a good example, let us know at

Following our AGM in March, there has been a few changes to our Board of
Directors. We have a new Convenor in Lindsay Law, who is replacing Jeanna Brady
as she steps down to co-convenor level. We also said goodbye to a few directors
as they move on to other projects, and extended a warm welcome to our four new
directors: Alan McKay, Johnathan Bryson, Maryam Imran and a new appointed
director, Nevil Lee.
There's a little bit more information available about our full board
here.<http://sptc.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=34e707cb8b5e3805f58adb634&id=7d76e9946e&e=f01495a44c>

We have been commissioned by the Scottish College for Educational Leadership to
deliver a Masterclass for the Excellence in Headship programme which starts
shortly.
We’ll be working with existing head teachers to look at effective ways of
engaging families and making sure the engagement makes a difference to outcomes
for young people.
