Hi Anne,
These are the books that are required summer reading at Crystal Springs
Uplands middle school this year:
*The Giver* — 6th
*The Outsiders* — 7th
*Animal Farm* — 8th
Plus one choice of the following for 8th only:
*The Poet X*
*A Heart in a Body in the World*
*The Housekeeper and the Professor*
I am also attaching my suggested summer reading list that's going out to my
students, as well as the menu for the book tasting I did this week, just
for fun (there is lots of crossover). I have found that one can never
really go wrong when using Newbery Award-winning books for the 6th graders
and sometimes 7th, and some of the Michael R Printz award winners are often
great for 8th graders and mature 7th graders -- you can see that we are
using two of them for 8th-grade choices this summer. The 6th grade
Newberry winner this year, *Merci Suarez Changes Gears*, might be
especially good for incoming 6th graders.
Best,
Amy Geriak

Good morning wonderful Librarians,
Hope this finds you well!
Our English teachers are choosing their required summer reading books for
*middle
school* students. *Would you mind sharing any fabulous titles you have
read that you would highly recommend or that your school will be requiring?*
I appreciate it so much, thank you!
Anne
p.s. My favorite books right now:
*Lousiana's Way Home* by DiCamillo (3rd/4th grade and up)
*Sweep: The Story of A Girl and Her Monster* by Auxier (4th and up)
