Hi, Catherine,
Here are some ideas of people you might contact for this intensive day:
- the folks at the *Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts*: Mission
Cultural Center SF <http://missionculturalcenter.org/>. They've been a
big part of the SF Latinx community for decades, and host tons of classes
and dozens of events, with teachers and artists from all fields drawn from
the local community, including young LatinX artists, poets, etc. They also
host an amazing Dia de Los Muertos show every year, with all the altars
created around a central theme; maybe your Diversity Council would want to
take a field trip there in preparation for February's event?
- I think someone already mentioned *Precita Eyes*, another Mission
district-based arts organization, that creates murals, teaches classes and
gives mural tours; here's a link again: Precita Eyes Community Murals
<http://www.precitaeyes.org/>
- Here's a listing with bios of the artists employed by *LEAP Arts*, a
SF non-profit providing arts education in SF schools, which includes
Latinax artists from various disciplines: LEAP_Teachers
<http://www.leaparts.org/teachers>
Sounds like a wonderful project!
Best of luck,
Mary Ann

Hello there
I hope this email finds you all in good form. Students are organizing a
Day of Action on February 13, 2019 at the French American International
School and I am helping them to find local Latina, Hispanic artists,
performers, poets, etc. who explore issues of social justice via the arts
and media. Any recommendations?
Here is their description:
"The Day of Action is a full day of presentations and workshops planned by
International High School’s Student Diversity Council. The day’s theme is
“Diversity in Media and The Arts”: activities and presentations will thus
explore social justice issues through the lens of media and the arts. With
this theme, we hope to engage students in and provoke productive
conversations on current issues for our generation. The event will be on
February 13th, 2019. "
If you have any recommendations, please just email me directly.
Thanks so much,
Catherine
PS : I will miss the BAISL meeting:( because I will be attending a web
radio workshop. Have fun and I look forward to meeting with you soon.
