Cassy, Thanks for sending this information. I’m happy to know you are involved,
because that means there is someone to ask about the program. At one point, I
contacted the rep but didn’t hear back. My question is how the program would
work for Live Oak — a school with an existing, fairly long-standing account.
Our pricing seems reasonable: We pay Overdrive an annual $1000 deposit which I
then use throughout the year to buy books. This year I spent about $1300 (the
$1000 deposit, plus $300 extra). How would it work (price and books) if we were
to join the consortium? Another issue is that we have a fairly low rate of
usage of ebooks. I appreciate that Overdrive provides statistics so we can
track it. I know circulation would improve if I did more outreach, but I also
feel that most kids still prefer real books. When offered a choice, they almost
always pick the actual book. (That makes me happy but still…) Has that been
your experience? The point is that I don’t want to spend more money on ebooks
(beyond the $1300), but I’m wondering if joining would allow us to maximize
what we currently offer? Jenny

Hi, BAISL Members!
Before you head off for summer, the OverDrive selection committees would like
to encourage you to join the shared collection for next Fall. This has been
our first year with this shared service and it's been great to have access to
a growing collection of books at a very reasonable price.
This year, the PreK-8 and High School Selection Committees established the

- please use this form to request titles for the Selection Committee to
consider for Shared Collection purchases
For those who haven't joined yet, please consider doing so by contacting
Kevin Coon at kcoon@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:kcoon@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> who will
provide an invoice for the cost (scaled based on school size). The fees you
pay go into the shared collection fund to purchase books all member schools
can access. Any additional books you want to purchase for your own school or
you would like to transfer from another ebook platform can stay in your own
account (what's called your Advantage account - only your school sees those
titles).
We currently have about 1,000 titles in the Shared Collection. Those who are
already members and have larger collections in your Advantage account, please
consider transferring some of your content to the Shared Collection to make
it a more robust collection for all. The Selection Committees would like to
review this content before it gets added to the Shared Collection to make
sure it is all in line with our Shared Collection Development policy, so
please share a spreadsheet of the titles you would like to transfer over.
Have a wonderful summer and see you next year!

See the attached list of all the schools currently enrolled in the BAISL
OverDrive consortium. Feel free to reach out and ask any of us questions
about it!
