Hello! We just started our Instagram account this year.
https://www.instagram.com/matthewslibraryscds/ We're also middle and high
school. We post new books, Friday features of specific books, displays,
some of our librarian "field trips," fun library activities (our kids who
like puzzling love to get their pictures taken with finished puzzles!)

Our Library Assistant, Melissa, suggests making a habit of posting
regularly so you don't go dark for too long. We try to post once a week
now. We embed (rather than just link to) our Instagram and other social
media from our library website called Books & Bytes, so it automatically
updates the feed when you post.

Another tip is to check with the powers that be to find out if there are
any students whose photos you don't have permission to post. We had a great
picture of about 5 of our students dressing up as one of our teachers, but
one student's photos were not allowed to be posted so we used a sticker
over his face.

Last tip is to vary the posts so that if you have a stack of new books this
time, maybe you want a picture of a student reading the next time.

Have fun with it!

Jo

Hi, All.
I'd love to know if you have an Instagram account for your middle school
library, and if so, do you have any tips for set up and content?
My middle school advisory committee is interested in setting up an
account for us, and I'd like to give them some real world examples/advice
from local schools.

Thanks,
Liz
