Schools of the Sacred Heart San Francisco is seeking excellent candidates
for a Librarian to support our high school students and faculty at Convent
of the Sacred Heart High School & Stuart Hall High School! (We are also
currently hiring an Associate Librarian & Archivist - please see second
email/post on BAISL site for a description of that position.)

Job Description:

The librarian works with high school students and faculty within our
two-campus library system— boasting a brand new Learning Commons completed
last year— to foster vibrant, welcoming knowledge centers that are
conducive to both consumption and creation by way of deep thought,
authentic inquiry, and collaboration. The librarian guides access to
information, teaches the critical thinking skills required to locate,
evaluate, analyze, synthesize, and ethically apply information, and
supports reading as a core value, not just for information but also for
compassion, discovery, life-long learning, global citizenship, and joy. The
librarian, in close collaboration with faculty, develops and implements a
program that supports classroom curriculum and beyond with resource
collection/curation and information literacy instruction. The librarian
offers instruction in research skills and behaviors in support of
classwork, the Launch Grant/Innovation program, and curiosity. Applicants

This is a full time, fully benefited, 10-month position with a competitive
salary.

Duties/Responsibilities include:

Information Specialist

-

Along with associate librarian, supports students and faculty of Stuart
Hall High School and Convent of the Sacred Heart High School.

Collaborates with faculty of both high schools to design, teach, and
assess learning experiences that incorporate multiple literacies and that
foster critical thinking


-

Offers direct individual and group instruction in skills pertaining to
information literacy, including how to access, evaluate, use, share and
create information in all formats using a variety of sources
-

Offers direct instruction in skills pertaining to the research process,
including formulating a research question, engaging in topic exploration,
developing an argument, and communicating findings
-

Offers direct support of the curriculum and both wide and deep research
through resource curation
-

Models and teaches the ethical use of information, including knowledge
of copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property, and assists
users with their understanding and observance of the same
-

Provides direct and indirect instruction to four-school community in
support of the Launch Grant and entrepreneurship programs, including
direction in different forms and functions of intellectual property
protection, prior art research, and the patent application process
-

Builds, maintains, and promotes multi-media collections that foster a
love of reading and that support the curriculum, needs, and interests of
students and faculty
-

Incorporates the American Association of School Librarians’ Standards
for the 21st Century Learner in delivering instruction
-

Assumes a leadership role in promoting intellectual freedom and access
to information as requisite to responsible citizenship
-

Grants and guides access to materials and information in the physical
collections, making resources from both high school libraries available to
all middle form and high school students and faculty
-

Grants and guides access to digital resources, including subscription
databases, e-books, and audio books, both on and off campus
-

Provides faculty/staff development opportunities in the use of
information resources in a variety of formats and integration of
information literacy skills throughout the curriculum
-

Seeks input from all members of the school community for additions to
the collection
-

Works in conjunction with the library department chair/lower school
librarian and associate librarian to develop, implement, and assess
curriculum
-

Works in conjunction with library department chair/lower school
librarian to select and evaluate electronic resources


Program Administrator

-

Oversees all aspects of Learning Commons/Library spaces, collections,
and instruction


-

Maintains library collection, including circulation, collection
development, classification, inventory, and evaluation
-

Administers the library budget, including purchase of all resources,
materials, and supplies
-

Oversees associate librarian
-

Trains and supervises student and parent volunteers
-

Takes an active role in school community, including participation in
school assemblies, faculty meetings, committees, and student advisory
-

Updates instructional and library-related professional skills through
attending conferences, participating in continuing education opportunities,
and scholarship
-

Maintains active memberships in professional associations


Qualifications:

Requires - Education: B.A., M.L.I.S. (Master of Library and Information
Science).

A minimum of three years experience working as a librarian in a school
setting strongly preferred.

Requires advanced search and research skills using proprietary databases.

Requires excellent writing, communication and grammar skills, and the
ability to support students’ writing skills.

Requires demonstrated experience using a wide range of instructional
technology tools. Direct experience using iPads, laptops, and Google Apps
strongly preferred.

Must be detail-oriented, organized and willing to take initiative.

Must have excellent teamwork skills.

Requires the ability to work well with and relate effectively to a diverse
group of high school students and faculty.

Must be a role model in embracing and living out the Schools' mission,
goals and criteria.

Experience with independent schools preferred.

Physical Ability Requirements:

Regularly lifting or carrying 1-20lbs.

Regular pushing/pulling/bending/stooping/kneeling

Regularly climbing stairs, Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours
