Hello! Every Spring, our Juniors research a social justice issue and write
a Justice Letter with a concrete request. Many of these letters are sent
to our school administration. This year, we've received a request to teach
students how to identify bias in the media narrative surrounding
immigration at the southern border. The library is working with SHP's
History Department Chair to design a unit for our Ethnic Studies class.

coupling lateral reading with:
"critical race digital literacy skills, including critically and laterally
reading race, detecting algorithmic bias, placing race-related information
in historical context, and recognizing the many ways specific racial groups
can be targeted in mis- and disinformation."
Unfortunately, they also state that "there are still no widely used K-20
critical digital literacy curricula that center race."
We'd love to learn about any information literacy units you teach that
center race. If I hear from multiple people, I'll compile the replies and
share them with the group.
