These are great suggestions. I’d also recommend looking at the Cybils Award
for Easy Readers and for Early Chapter Books.

I found Capstone a particularly good publisher to explore for this area,
especially because they provide reading levels.

It’s also interesting to think about what graphic novels are especially
geared toward developing readers and where to shelve them (with Easy
Readers or with Graphic Noveks). Mrs Dalloway’s, a great bookstore in
Berkeley, has a good list of these:

Theo,
This has been the focus of my recent collection development too. I'm
finding that a lot of my middle grade readers are drifting off to graphic
novel land and so I need to hook them sooner.
I adore *Mindy Kim* by Lyla Lee and *Yasmin* by Saadia Faruqi (Yasmin
first came as those early readers but they're now bound in a chapter book
series set.) *Frannie K. Stein* is hilarious. *The Wishing Library* is by
Christine Evans, who is local. I just discovered and am reading *Magic in
the Map* and *Greetings From Somewhere*. A third grader just recommended
I buy the National Park mystery series
<https://nationalparkmysteryseries.com/>. *Vet Volunteers* by Laurie
Halse Andersen (yes, THAT L.H.A.) is a good animal-based series.
I used this as a jumping off point
<https://www.themeasuredmom.com/the-ultimate-list-of-early-chapter-book-series-for-kids/>.
I don't necessary agree with her assessment of each series but it is the
best comprehensive list that I've found online so far. I also "cheat" and
go to the public library to look at their series, marking down which ones I
want to buy.
If I ever get around to making a comprehensive chapter book series list of
my own, I'll share it with you.
Best,

Hi all,
My transitional readers section is very well loved, but I could use some
fresh additions to the selection. I'd love your recommendations for
broadening the collection.
Preferably, I'm looking for series books. I have most of the standard
early reader staples in the collection already (Branches books, *Princess
in Black*, etc.), so I welcome lesser-known suggestions as well.
Anything to breathe some fresh air into the section!
Thank you!
Theo
