Since so many people replied with interest and curiosity, I am going to
share some marvelous things I have learned and discussions I've had over
the last few days.
The initial reason I sent the email is that I had been asked to build
research curriculum and I was feeling very enervated, drained, and
disheartened by the prospect. I was worried that it was my self-doubt or
lack of belief in my abilities...or maybe lack of interest/experience in
building anything in a vacuum. So, I thought I would see if any of y'all
wanted to pick up a consulting-research-curriculum-building gig.
The (very bare bones of the) conclusions I have come to after some
incredible conversation with Christiana Cuellar, Debbie Abilock, and Cathy
Rettburg include the following:
- consultants get to choose the jobs they take so they can do the things
they love
- it is philosophically undermining to librarians to ask them to build a
product that gets handed to a teacher to deliver
- collaboration is everything!!
Moving forward, I will continue to offer 1:1 consulting to collaborate WITH
teachers to build curriculum that they will deliver (they know the content
and the individual kiddos whereas I can provide processes, excellent
listening and asking open-ended questions, reflection and revisement, and
-of course)-info lit. best practices).

this topic! I feel that you are all building incredible curriculum in
collaboration with your teachers and doing such incredibly good work every
