Hello BAISL,
I am really excited to give you a run down of next Friday's meeting at the
Urban School of San Francisco! If you haven't RSVP'd yet, please do so

be available by 8:45am and we will start at 9am.
In the morning we will be joined by Clara Jeffrey, Editor-in-Chief of Mother
Jones <http://www.motherjones.com/about>, for a roundtable on the search for
truth in journalism and how we as educators and librarians can make sure we
are developing skills in our students that will help them discern truth
from fiction. I will have some questions prepared to get us started, but
come with your questions and be ready to share your experiences. Thank you,
Elsa Townsend of Children's Day School, for getting Clara to come talk to
us. This is a great honor and opportunity! Mother Jones recently won two
National Magazine Awards--one for Magazine of the Year and the other for
reporting in this series on private prisons

After the roundtable we will move into small groups to talk about how the
recent election has come into our work as librarians, what that looks like
for different grade levels, and what an ideal scope and sequence for media
and political literacy might look like.
In the afternoon we will be joined via videoconferencing by Kevin Coon,
our OverDrive rep. We will have the chance to see what a shared OverDrive
collection looks like and he will try to answer any questions we have.

We will also take some time for our usual business meeting.
