Wonderful idea. I would definitely agree.
Sadly, I am unable to come to the session on Monday.

Debbie,
I think a workshop on advocacy would be really helpful.

Dear BAISL-members,
I was looking over the wonderful things we’ve done at meetings and
thinking how unique and wonderful it is to be part of such a vibrant group
;-) As I do PD with independent and public school faculty and librarians,
one of the things that often comes up is advocacy – not necessarily
publicity or marketing – but rather how to advocate in an assertive, wise
way with supervisors, reluctant or even ignorant teachers, etc. I’d like
to put in a plug for devoting a meeting or half-day with person that does
SEL workshops in a range of schools. I’ve know this group forever. Some
of the workshop leaders come out of independent schools…Currently her team
is doing Title 1 trainings under a large Hewlett grant but we might be able
to get her for next year – a morning or day.
I have talked to her in the past about doing a workshop specifically for
school librarians for schools I’m working with. Unlike faculty we see kids
for multiple years, have a significant budget and space, feel important we
collaborate with classroom teachers, may or may not be called an
administrator. Certainly I never learned in my graduate library program
how to navigate that vast role assertively – without being seen as
strident, whining – both of which I’ve done ;-)
I’m wondering if there’s some interest in a tailor-made workshop for us
for the long meeting next year…? I’m asking now because we’d have to get
on her calendar and thought we could talk about this at Menlo meeting.
best,
debbie
