1 Sheet name-top center or left corner or even both
2 sheet#-reference to other maps, overlays, plans etc. Bottom
left corner
3 Series home- next to sheet name Bold Print Upper right
4 bar scales-size key on center bottom convert map distance to grid
distance
5 contour interval note- right corner, gives elevation gradient.
6 elevation guide- bottom right mini elevation of terrain
7 delineation diagram- indicates true north, magnetic north, and
map north and difference between them
8 grid reference box- bottom right center bottom, instructions for
conversions
9 legend- translation of map symbols
10 map colors- black= building or man made structure, red/brown-
natural contour features, blue-water, green- significant vegetation
able to provide cover or concealment
11 Major terrain features- Hill, valley, ridge, saddle, depression
12 minor features- cliff draw spur
13 supplementary features- fill, cut
