On the poster edit I thought we should start the observing at about 8pm to try
to get one last view of Jupiter before it goes behind the Sun and becomes a
morning planet.

[Brandon and Area Astronomical Society] Re: [Brandon and AreaAstronomical
Society] Re: Next meeting
We will have to come up with a suitable scale for the Solar System to match the
trail distance. The scale that I used for Astronomy Day might be too small.
Pluto was only 320 m away. The Sun was represented as a hockey puck, 7.6 cm.
This is the calculator I
used.http://thinkzone.wlonk.com/SS/SolarSystemModel.php I will keep the RASC ;
members advised and try to get some of them out. There’s a couple dual members
in Onanole that will hopefully be able to attend. I will likely be there for
the weekend and camp in Wasagaming campground. Trevor Sent from Mail for

many can attend. I will be leading the "Hike through the solar system" and
would appreciate anyone coming to help or moral support! I spoke with Annik
today and we are looking at doing the hike at 2pm on Saturday the 10th. I hope
to get to the photography event and the star light cruise on the Martese. Annik
will keep us updated on the promotion. Wish for clear skies! Gord Sent from

To: baas@xxxxxxxxxxxxx That's great news. I'll forward this onto Jay at the
RASC to let him know of the the plans. Trevor Sent from my Samsung Galaxy

Subject: [Brandon and Area Astronomical Society] Re: Next meeting Hello all,
I met up with Annik today to discuss a dark sky event on the 9-10th of
September. What we came up with was setting up a sidewalk Astronomy booth on
the grass in front of the museum to generate interest in the general public and
then have another site set up at the boat cove. They will be able to turn of
the light at the corner and keep traffic from entering the area. Here, we have
a pretty good view of the southern sky with Saturn and Mars hopefully just
above the tree line in the distance. I will verify over the next couple days.
A park interpreter will lead those interested to the second site which is a
short walk away. This would be the plan for Friday night. We will have access
to the Martese for Saturday night where a cruise will take us to the middle of
the lake for a better view of the sky but I explained that the telescopes would
be of little use due to the instability of the boat. It would be about learning
the constellations and pointing out planets, andromeda, etc. Annik thought
about 2 hours would be sufficient for both nights. Friday the sidewalk stop
would start around 9-930 and going till 11:30ish and the boat cove starting
around 10 till midnight. We would like to see a couple individuals at each
location, so Trevor, see if there's any interest from RASC in helping out.
Annik will contact you to see if camping/accommodations will be needed. As far
as a star party is concerned, that would be a future event and this is more of
an introduction to Astronomy. A star party could be set up at Lake Audy,
which would be a perfect location.Annik will be in contact and she is going to
create a poster you help generate interest. Should we get rained out, a display
could be set up in the museum or possibly the grandstand so people could see
the telescopes and ask general questions. I mentioned that RASC might have some
ideas in case of a rain out.Hopefully I offered some help but input from others
would be appreciated. Gord Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.--------

[Brandon and Area Astronomical Society] Next meeting Our next meeting would be
on Aug. 11th. I was just thinking instead of having a regular meeting, we
meetup at Spruce Woods for their observing night on the 12th. RASC Winnipeg
will be there as well since they will be having presentations on the Saturday
night and observing as well. They will be camping in one of the group areas.
I will also be camping there that weekend. I’m waiting for more details.
Might be a good chance for both groups to meetup. Past years on the Saturday
they have a potluck supper. Starting in September we can start back with having
regular meetings at BU. Everyone should be back to regular work and school
schedules. Trevor Sent from Mail for Windows 10
