âTed Forte wondered: *Do folks still go out and look at stuff, or is
everyone into photography t**hese days?*
âAbout a decadde ago I decided to get into photography. Bought nice Tak
mount. Several Pentax 6x7 camera lenses. Big FLI camera. I was all set
to begin. And then ...
I decided "this looks like it is gonna be w-o-r-k." And sold/gave-away
that gear.
And last week I lay on a chaise with my Canon 10x42 IS binoculars and
re-visited old friends in the Milky Way, sometimes using filters. North
American; gamma Cyg region; Veil (all quite nice); Barnards E (I like that
guy). And thru Aquila and Scutum and down to the Lagoon. (Other evenings
I might use the 6-inch RFT or the 8-inch RFT.)
Before I bought the gear, the whole imaging-with-filters was still pretty
new. These days I see a superb amateur image and think "Oh hum, another
great photo of M-51"
Photography hasn't replaced viewing. Just like travel-photography hasn't
replaced vacations. Just my thot.
