The Vekolfire is north of the freeway, I-8. I could clearly see the glow from the fire as I drove home last night. It is ~2 miles SW from Stone HavenObservatory. Hidden Valley, one of the communities set to be evacuated,is where I live. From what I understand, what fire departments have responded were able to get it 30% contained by noon today. Helicopter reports saw no open flame andonly a few smoke trails. Here's to hoping they kill it before I get home,or I may be forced to help. The location is listed as 15 miles WSW of Stanfield. Looking at my Arizona Road &Recreation Atlas, that puts the fire south of I-8, between Vekol Rd. and Antelope Peak - nearly on top of our observing site. It's around 6000 acres right now &some structures in the area are being threatened. > >For those of you who might have this same road atlas, reference map #46. I hope no one is injured from this, and I hope the site somehow survives as well. > >Kerry Weatherford > > >-- >See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please >send personal replies to the author, not the list. > -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
