So my wife and kids are visiting the Boston area these last couple of weeks while I'm working, and they spent the day yesterday at the Boston Science Center. They spent some time pondering an exhibit about the anatomy of a supernova, and stars in general. One part of the exhibit deals with Antares and it's structure as a red supergiant, and the fact that its physical diameter is larger than the orbit of the inner planets. So as we're riding home from dinner last night, my 7 year old daughter Emily is deep in conversation with my 8 year old Mikayla about the exhibit. Emily mentions that if Antares were our Sun, we would all burn up because the Earth would be INSIDE the star and it's very, very hot there. Mikayla's response: "We wouldn't burn up. It's a dry heat." Thought this group could appreciate that in light of recent weather in Arizona. Cheers.
