This news from Dean Ketelsen at the U. of AZ Steward Mirror Lab, about recent successful tests of the adaptive optics (AO) secondary mirror for the Large Binocular Telescope on Mt. Graham... It is a large diameter, very thin meniscus mirror (about 1 meter diameter, ca. 1.6 mm thick), with hundreds of magnets attached, driven by computer to deform it to cancel out seeing effects in the atmosphere.
