I think it is almost as dark as PP. The East doesn't have superior or
Queen Creek, and to the south the Superstitions seem to help with the
Tuscon glow. Of course you are closer to Phoenix, so the west is no good
and I expect the zenith may not be quite a good ad PP.
Although the drive time may not be much more, the distance is considerably
closer. Also, I have had better luck with less cars after it starts
getting really late. If you are in the South West corner of the parking
lot, usually the cars will zip right past without to much disruption, and I
don't think it causes a problem when I'm in the middle of capturing an
image, it's a rather large parking lot.
One downside is that there are no bathrooms there.
I think it boils down to preference... I have no problem being there by
myself, I almost always have been through the years when doing Astronomy,
but I thought I would let folks know if they were looking for a place a
little closer (not by drive time).
