Love the panorama of the site. I have a three-monitor 5120 x 1200 wraparound for my main PC - it fits very nicely and feels like being there! I was planning to come back tomorrow night, but have been sick as a dog since I left Friday morning. Still might go if I feel much better. Otherwise, Happy New Year to all. I awoke early to view Comet C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy) in my 10-inch scope. It showed a very bright coma, and a slender tail that could be traced to 2 degrees. It was also faintly visible without optical aid. Here is an 10-second exposure of it with a 50mm lens at f/2.2 and ISO 1600. http://www.pbase.com/polakis/image/153953800/original Related trivia: an iOptron SkyTracker uses *four* AA batteries, not two. Replacing two batteries in the front of the holder will not make it track any better than if it had zero batteries. Just before sunrise, I raced to the top of the 300-foot peak just to the south of the observing field, and took a couple panoramas to stitch together and a photo of the sun rising from behind the Eagle Tail Mountains. The Belt of Venus figures prominently in the first photo. http://www.pbase.com/polakis/image/153953800/original http://www.pbase.com/polakis/image/153953805/original http://www.pbase.com/polakis/image/153953801/original Tom -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list. -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
