Hi All-
On the off chance others in the state are interested, copied is an invite sent
to the Tucson club's discussion group. If anyone is interested in a road trip
to the Tucson area, let Edward know (for saturday the 17th) or me (for the
18th).

Hi All-
As the solstice approaches, it's time once again for one of my traditions,
observing the setting sun behind Kitt Peak National Observatory. The window
opens next Saturday the 17th, and closes about 8 days later on Christmas.
Unfortunately, I've got a conflict when most people might be available on the
17th, but Edward Stramler has graciously agreed to lead the expedition on that
date. I'll likely go up Sunday the 18th, if you want to join me, drop an
e-mail.

The plan for those who have not done it before is to meet at the McDonalds at
Tanque Verde and Mount Lemmon Highway, departing for the observing site at 4pm
sharp. That leaves about an hour of setup before sunset, so don't be
late! Be
sure to email Edward at surroundhound@xxxxxxxxx, or call his cell at
520-248-7299 so he knows you will be joining the group in case of questionable
weather.

It is a fun event, but tricky to observe or photograph unless you have
equipment
for imaging the sun. DO NOT depend on the atmosphere to dim the sun enough to
observe it without filters. Melinda and I have observed it many times - check
out some of our results at:
