Matter o' fact.... Jay Reynolds Freeman in California has done the 
Herschel 400 with an 80 mm scope (his "famous" Refractor Red, after the 
refurb paint job).  Now, Freeman is an experienced observer, with many 
scopes, including a C-14 ("Harvey") and an Astrophysics 10 inch Mak, so 
he knoweth of wherefore he speaks....   See his interesting essays on 
observing and other philosophical topics (in the natural scientist 
sense) on his web pages....  He is an old friend of Gerry Rattley, and 
an active member of the SJAA in San Jose, CA.
