An IAU Circular issued today contains the following note:

COMET C/1995 O1 (HALE-BOPP)
     S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, has acquired astrometry and
photometry of this comet from unfiltered CCD images obtained by M.
Tsumura (Wakayama, Japan) with a 0.20-m reflector and a 0.11-m
refractor during visits to Waddi Farm in Western Australia,
yielding the following total magnitudes for the comet (which showed
a very diffuse coma of diameter about 6"): 2004 Mar. 21.63 UT,
17.8-17.9; 25.56, 17.8-18.0; 2005 Feb. 8.6, 18.3-18.4. There have
been very few observations of this comet, now at r = 21 AU, in the
last two years (see also IAUC 8479).

...notice the mightly apertures brought to bear on the mag 18 comet.
