I noticed a rarity on the Clear Sky Clock forecast for Phoenix: excellent (5/5) seeing is predicted for much of tonight. http://cleardarksky.com/c/Phoenixkey.html?1 Clicking on one of the Seeing squares between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. brings up the map, which shows a good-sized island of "perfect" seeing centered on Phoenix. The source of the forecast is Environment Canada. Their seeing forecast uses weighted wind shears, flux momentum in the low levels and temporal surface temperature trends... you know, stuff we're all intimately familiar with. Anyway, with Saturn approaching opposition, it might be worth setting up in the backyard. I know I'll be checking it out.
