Here's a bright Geminid meteor and its train with Comet 46P/Wirtanen. After
the flash of the meteor, watch the orange train of vaporized metal and rock
drift toward the bottom of the frame. The comet is the tailless green glow
at right center. Even without a meteor or comet, this field of Orion, the
Hyades, and the Pleiades is one of my favorites.

These are 15-second exposures with a Canon 6D working at ISO 3200 (!). The
lens is a Rokinon 35mm at f/2.
The train is not smoke. Phil Plait explains it as well as anybody at this
site.
