Yeah, and the Minotaur is a solid-fueled system, which always puts on more of a light show. The last launch I caught outa Vandenberg (in 2010) was an Atlas, which is liquid fueled. Produced a nice bluish flare, but no trail. I recall a pre-dawn White Sands launch back in the early 90s (I think) that lit up the sky with a fantastic plume ... made all the news media, generated calls to police and FAA, and looked surreal. I caught it in my rear-view mirror as I was leaving home that morning, stopped, got out of my car, looked for some time trying to figure out what I was seeing, and wondered if we had blown up another STS. Anyone else recall that event? The year/date? I wish I'd gone back to get my camera and photograph it, but I was already running late for work.
