Amateur astronomer contacts in southern California have just today mentioned the very serious fire that is now threatening the historic Mt. Wilson Observatory in the San Gabriel Mountains, overlooking Pasadena and Los Angeles. Here is the Mt. Wilson web page with the latest information: http://www.mtwilson.edu/fire.php Evidently the Observatory staff have been safely evacuated, and fire crews are on scene and working hard to prevent the fire from sweeping through the Observatory grounds.
