[AZ-Observing] Re: Errata and other input for SAC deep sky database update, please

If I may brainstorm a little:

I'd like to see at least Ed. 1 of UA stay in there. It's still a valuable
reference. They are usually referred to as UA1 and UA2 in databases. I have
Argo Navis which refs between the two Editions. It can talk to a laptop and
poss you could transfer the vol/page data to a ? file or ask Gary Kopff at
Wildcard if and how it could be done. He's a nice guy and it doesn't hurt to
ask. But if we discovered how to do it on our own I don't think it would be
copying because it's just being used for a reference and is common knowledge
what's on what page in the UA. As a last resort I would consider (briefly)
adding all 10,000? manually or better yet split up among all those having an
Argo Navis Computer. I'd say 5-10 who have it. I guarantee 100% accuracy and
we could check each others' entries.

Subject: [AZ-Observing] Errata and other input for SAC deep sky database
update, please

Howdy all;

Well, the ongoing discussion about deep sky data and more complete =
databases
has motivated me to update the Saguaro Astronomy Club database version =
7.2.
I will not make wholesale changes, but there are some errors to fix and =
more
up to data;-)

So, this is a call to all the users of this info. Please provide me =
with
whatever information you have abut the objects in the SAC deep sky data.
After a few internal releases for double checking, I will probably wind =
up
at version 7.5 or 7.6, just guessing. =20

I will be double checking positions against the Historical NGC and some
information from Don Pensack. I will add the central star information =
from
Brian Skiff and maybe a few of my personal notes for some objects with =
no
notes at all.

I do have one question. The database in version 7.2 has the Uranometria =
map
numbers for the first release of Uranometria and I don't have the access =
to
the person who wrote the program to create those page numbers. What I =
am
saying is I don't have the ability to update to the second version of
Uranometria map numbers.

Should I just drop the map numbers all together? =20

Maybe just drop the Uranometria map numbers and leave the Sky Atlas =
maps.
Or just leave it as is and make certain that the documentation tells =
folks
that these are chart numbers for the first Uranometria.

Give me some feedback, please;
Steve Coe
