The East Valley Astronomy Club will conduct our August meeting this Friday
evening - August 17th. The meeting will take place in the usual location -
the Shakespeare room at the Southeast Regional Library in Gilbert, beginning
at 7:30 pm. This month's agenda will include club business, member
presentations, our featured speakers, as well as an opportunity to catch up
with friends and meet some new ones.
We have a special program this month. Our featured speakers will be three
of our club members - Bob Buchheim, Wayne Thomas, and Bernard Miller. Each
of these gentlemen have their own astronomical observatories and will
present their experiences with building and operating their observatories,
and share some of the work they have done. How they decided to set theirs
up, what type of equipment they installed, and some of the challenges they
have faced. They will also address what they would change if they had it to
do over again, and what advice they would give to another amateur astronomer
who wanted to establish a personal observatory. For many of us that have
considered (or dreamed) about having our own observatory, this will be an
illuminating program, and an excellent opportunity to ask questions. All
three of these guys are exceptionally experienced astronomy and observing
pros who can speak on almost any topic, which will make for an terrific
program. As always, anyone who is passionate or even curious about
astronomy is very welcome to attend Friday's meeting as our guests.

Note that the library will be closed at meeting time, so please use the
entrance facing Guadalupe Road.
Save the Date! The East Valley Astronomy Club is excited to announce that
the All Arizona Star Party will be held on October 5 and 6 at the Hovatter
Air Strip. This is one of the two big observing events of the year,
following on to the March Messier Marathon put on by our friends and
colleagues in the Saguaro Astronomy Club. More information will be provided
at Friday's meeting as well as in the weeks to come.
